The "Out of the Garden" intangible cultural heritage folk activity in Chaoshan area is a folk relic of my country's traditional "Ceremony of Capping and Hairpin", and is also a special coming-of-age ceremony held for local teenagers aged 15, marking the children's "outing of the garden" and growing up.
On August 10, the traditional Chinese Valentine's Day, the Chaonan District Civilization Office of Shantou City, the Chaonan District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau, the Chaonan District Chengtian Town New Era Civilization Practice Institute and other units jointly held a "Out of the Garden" ceremony experience activity in Dongyan Village, a provincial typical village of the "Hundred Million Project" in Chaonan District, inviting 10 families to experience an exclusive coming-of-age ceremony full of "ritual sense".
It is reported that this experience activity aims to create a fusion carrier of traditional ritual activities and modern festival methods, guide young people to fasten the first button of their lives, promote the quality upgrade of Chaonan's spiritual civilization construction, and assist the high-quality development of the "Hundreds of Millions of Projects" and the cultural and tourism industry.
Chen Bangmian, deputy secretary of the Chaonan District Committee, wished the children to grow up healthily and pursue their dreams, live up to their youth and their best years, and to be fragrant and flourishing all the way in the beautiful journey of life, and inspire their youth with a fighting spirit.
During the experience activity, accompanied by auspicious blessings, the 10 teenagers finished the bathing and changing ceremony, put on red clogs, and then offered tea to their parents to thank them for their upbringing. The parents also gave their children the best wishes for the "coming of age ceremony". Afterwards, the teenagers jumped over three bamboo baskets symbolizing the "garden wall" and placed scissors, rulers, brushes, paper books and other items, symbolizing that they are clever, knowledgeable, and able to calculate and write. After "biting the phoenix head" and reciting the initiative "Be a civilized teenager with a heart to serve the country" (excerpt) in unison, the teenagers lined up to "step out of the garden gate", symbolizing that they are heading towards the future and towards a better future.
During the event, Huang Donghua, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shantou Municipal Committee, and Yang Xiao, Standing Committee Member of the Chaonan District Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, also presented souvenirs to the 10 young people who participated in the event.
According to reports, this event also designed to launch an on-site check-in activity, connecting a series of cultural and tourism sites including Dongyan Village in Chengtian Town, "the first rice cake cultural tourism destination in Chaoshan", and Shangyan Film Culture Village, the hometown of the father of Chinese film, and linking up Dongyan Rice Cake Workshop, "Guranju" Rice Cake House B&B, Zheng Zhengqiu's former residence, and the Centennial Chaozhou Film Museum, and setting up the Daliao inlaid porcelain experience area and the "Chaonan Best" display area, so that citizens can immerse themselves in the richness and diversity of Chaonan's traditional culture.
