Sonic Generations will be removed from digital storefronts next month, but there are still ways for players to purchase it.

On Friday, Sega released a statement on the official Sonic Twitter account, confirming that the 2011 game will be removed from stores on September 9, presumably to make way for its remake, Sonic x Shadow Generations Reboot.

However, the official also stated that even if the game is removed from the shelves, those who do not have the game can still get it through the new bundle.

Sega reassured players of the Steam version that there is a small but dedicated mod scene for that version and that mod support will remain enabled.

"We're excited to share Sonic the Hedgehog Reboot with you this October and see a new generation cherish this game as much as we do," the statement read.

"On September 9, the original Sonic Generations will be removed as a standalone game. However, we've heard your feedback and want to help keep the game."

"As a result, Sonic Generations will remain available via bundles with other iconic Sonic games on Steam and Xbox. Existing owners of the game will still be able to download and play. Finally, we are pleased to confirm that mods on the Steam version will not be affected."

The new bundle is called the Sonic Legacy Bundle and includes several classic Sonic games for $59.99.

The bundle will include the following titles:

Sonic Generations Collection

●Sonic Adventure DX

●Sonic Adventure 2

●Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

●Sonic 4 Part 1

●Sonic 4 Part 2

●Sonic 3D Big Bang

●Sonic Pinball

"Sonic x Shadow Generations Reboot" is an updated version of "Sonic Generations" that includes new levels.

The original game saw Sonic and friends team up with their past selves, and the game was divided into two gameplay styles: "Classic", which was mainly side-scrolling, and "Modern", which featured 3D levels.

The new version will be a "complete remake" of Sonic Generations with "upgraded visuals and new additional content," as well as new content featuring Shat.
