On August 8, a reporter from Guangzhou Daily checked the "Leadership Team" column on the official website of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) (abbreviated as "City University (Dongguan)") and noticed that Duan Baoyan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in electronic mechanical engineering, is now the president of the university.
Public information shows that Duan Baoyan was born in Jizhou City, Hebei Province in February 1955. He was admitted to Northwest Institute of Telecommunications Engineering (now Xidian University) in 1977, and successively obtained bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in engineering. He served as the president of Xidian University from April 2002 to June 2012.
He has been engaged in teaching and scientific research in electronic mechanical engineering for a long time, and has devoted himself to the research of electromechanical coupling theory and key technologies of electronic equipment, opening up a new field of electromechanical coupling research of electronic equipment in my country. Duan Baoyan systematically established a field coupling theory model between the electromagnetic field, structural displacement field, and temperature field of electronic equipment, revealed the influence mechanism of mechanical structural factors on electrical performance, and proposed a theory and method of electromechanical coupling design based on the field coupling theory model and influence mechanism, which has been successfully applied to many major national projects.
Duan Baoyan has published more than 400 papers, given more than 15 special reports at important international academic conferences, and written 6 books. He has been cited more than 12,000 times and has more than 40 authorized invention patents. He won 1 first prize (2020) and 3 second prizes (2004, 2008, 2013) of the National Science and Technology Progress Award as the first finisher. He was selected as a 2009 Chinese Scientist, the 2012 Hong Kong Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Achievement Award, the 2017 Chinese Academy of Sciences Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Award and the China Good Design Gold Award, the 2018 Asian Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization Achievement Award, the 2021 Shaanxi Province Highest Science and Technology Award, and the 2021 China Aerospace Qian Xuesen Outstanding Contribution Award.
In early 2020, City University of Hong Kong signed a cooperative education agreement with Dongguan Municipal Government and Dongguan Institute of Technology to build a mainland-Hong Kong cooperative education institution with independent legal personality in Songshan Lake Science City, Dongguan City - City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). Graduates of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) who meet the degree-awarding qualifications will also receive a degree from City University of Hong Kong. On April 16, 2024, the Ministry of Education sent a letter to the Guangdong Provincial Government approving the formal establishment of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan).
According to the official website of CityU Dongguan, the school will carry out discipline planning in the early stage based on the development needs of the future industrial transformation and upgrading of the Greater Bay Area, and gradually establish an open interdisciplinary cooperation platform for education, research and knowledge transfer; by promoting scientific and technological innovation, cultivating high-end talents, and realizing the complementary advantages of resources between the two places, it will make positive contributions to optimizing the layout structure of higher education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, gathering high-end talents, and building a comprehensive national science center, and gradually develop into a world-class institution of higher learning committed to creating excellent scientific research and education.
Judging from the filing situation of undergraduate batches in this year's college entrance examination, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) had the highest admission score of 632 in Guangdong Province, ranking 6758th in the province; the filing line was 611 points, ranking 15215th in the province, 169 points above the undergraduate line; the average admission score was 617 points, ranking 12233rd in the province, which has reached the admission level of "Double First-Class" universities as a whole.
