"Everyone says marriage is a gamble, but I'm very lucky that he didn't let me lose," said Zuo Xiaoxia, the female protagonist from Ningde, Fujian.

"Just marry her. I feel very lucky to marry such a virtuous, considerate and understanding wife." said Shou Yanxuan, the male lead from New Taipei City, Taiwan.

After 10 years of marriage, Shou Yanxuan and Zuo Xiaoxia, a couple from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, wrote down what they wanted to say to each other in an interview with the Guide reporter. On August 11, the Chinese Valentine's Day, they will participate in the 2024 Huli District's Third Cross-Strait Chinese Valentine's Day Hand-in-Hand Meeting. 100 couples from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will hold a Chinese-style collective wedding together to build a "Magpie Bridge" of love across the Taiwan Strait. The love story of Shou Yanxuan and Zuo Xiaoxia, a couple from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, across the Taiwan Strait is like a Taiwanese idol drama staged in Huli District, Xiamen: a meeting in midsummer, a romantic acquaintance, blending into the lake, and working together to create.

Summer Encounter: Taiwanese Drama Comes to Reality

In the summer of July 2012, Shou Yanxuan visited the company where Zuo Xiaoxia worked as a business manager. The gentle Taiwanese boy met the gentle and lovely Fujian girl. The two hit it off and talked freely, and soon sparked love. "At that time, I felt that we got along very well, and then we added each other on WeChat. In the process of getting to know each other slowly, we found that not only did we have similar views on love, but also our views on career and family were very compatible." Zuo Xiaoxia recalled.

"Most mainland girls have the traditional impression that the male protagonists of Taiwanese idol dramas are romantic and considerate, and my husband is such a person." Zuo Xiaoxia said that she still remembers the scene when her husband proposed to her in 2014. "He secretly found a team, prepared flowers, balloons and giant dolls at the mall, and came to pick me up from work in a suit and tie. When I passed by, I joked with him, 'Someone is proposing, it's a bit tacky'. Who would have thought that the female protagonist was actually me!"

Shou Yanxuan recalled, "My wife is so smart that she could tell at a glance that someone was proposing to me. Although she saw through it, fortunately she didn't know it was her who was being proposed to, so it was still a bit of a surprise." Every girl should hope to have a proposal ceremony before entering the marriage hall. He said, "I hope to give my beloved one a proposal full of surprise and romance. If she is happy, I will be happier."

In Zuo Xiaoxia's eyes, Mr. Shou is a "very responsible and capable person" at work and at home. He is a workaholic at ordinary times, but he still takes the trouble to prepare little surprises for me. Although they may be a little 'earthy' sometimes, I am very touched that he takes it to heart." The two met at work in 2012, registered their marriage across the strait in 2014, and have been married for ten years and have two lovely babies.

Let's join hands in creating a better future

In 2007, Shou Yanxuan, who had just graduated from high school, embarked on the road to study in the mainland. After graduating from university, he stayed in the mainland to develop. In 2018, Shou Yanxuan started his own business in Xiamen. Now, he is the general manager of Xiamen Yanlaifu Hospital. Shou Yanxuan said, "The hospital was located in Huli District because I felt that the development of Xiamen Huli District was booming, and the place to start a business was in the central business district of the cross-strait financial center near Wuyuan Bay, and the potential was unlimited. Secondly, I felt that Huli District's preferential policies for Taiwan and its support for enterprises were very strong, so I could develop with peace of mind."

Shou Yanxuan said, "I am very grateful to my wife. Without her company along the way, I would not have achieved what I have today." After marriage, in order to support her husband's entrepreneurial career, Zuo Xiaoxia quit her original job and came to her husband's company. The two worked hard together in Huli District, Xiamen.

"Many people may not be able to tell my Taiwanese accent anymore." Shou Yanxuan joked that this is the best proof of my integration. "My ability to integrate into the mainland and take root in the lake has a lot to do with my wife. Due to the differences in our growing environment, we have clashes of ideas in life, culture and work. I have learned a lot from my wife about how to behave in society, which is very helpful for my work."

"Using one word to describe my wife would be too pale. In my eyes, my wife has so much to admire." Shou Yanxuan said, if life could only be like the first sight, a glimpse in midsummer would be unforgettable for a lifetime.

Both sides of the Taiwan Strait look forward to the Qixi Festival ceremony

In the process of getting married, this cross-strait couple also overcame many difficulties together. Zuo Xiaoxia recalled, "He is Taiwanese. We grew up in different environments, received different educations, and had different customs and habits. But we had the same values and believed that we were the right people for each other and would go through thick and thin together."

"If I go back to the proposal scene ten years ago, I will still be glad for the choice I made at that time. In the past ten years, I have seen him slowly grow from a little boy who just understood romance to a warm-hearted partner and a very responsible father. I have also learned a lot from him," said Zuo Xiaoxia.

Shou Yanxuan, who attended the Huli District's first Cross-Strait Qixi Hand-in-Hand Meeting, said, "I am very excited to participate in this event and honored to share our love story with everyone." Zuo Xiaoxia said, "I believe it will definitely be an unforgettable memory in life. I hope that all the 100 couples from both sides of the strait who participated in the wedding can be happy and use our small family to leverage the love of the people on both sides of the strait."
