Sichuan Province has even listed artificial intelligence as the "No. 1 Innovation Project" this year.Recently, Red Star Capital interviewed several AI large model manufacturers in Chengdu and discussed with them the "Chengdu power" in the artificial intelligence trend.
Chengdu Koala Youran Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Koala Youran") is an innovative enterprise focusing on core artificial intelligence technologies. Since its establishment in 2017, Koala Youran has been committed to the research and development of multimodal AI core technologies and industrial applications.
Its independently developed OSMAGIC multimodal artificial intelligence operating system is the industry's first multimodal AI operating system, capable of end-to-end full-process empowerment from scenario-based needs to application launch.
Red Star Capital recently interviewed Shen Fumin, a professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and CEO of Koala Youran. He believes that AI technology manufacturers and companies in the industry should work together to deeply integrate the special needs of the industry. At the same time, Sichuan should also "find another way" in the development of the artificial intelligence industry and focus on its own advantageous industries.
“AI+Industry” generates more fundamental value
Red Star Capital Bureau: I noticed that Koala Youran has launched a full-modal AI interactive platform, and it is "AI+" for various industries. Can you give examples of what kind of intelligent services the interactive platform can provide?
Shen Fumin:Koala Youran independently developed OSMAGIC, a multi-modal artificial intelligence operating system, which is the industry's first multi-modal AI operating system. Based on it, we have created an AI application platform that can be used in all walks of life. We have also released the Youran Big Model, which is a multi-modal industry-wide big model. The Youran Big Model will upgrade the original AI platform in all aspects.
After upgrading to the Youran Yuanzhi omnimodal AI application platform, it can perform omnimodal analysis and perception of various modal data, and can also enable natural interaction between people and products in natural language or voice. This is the most important feature. It utilizes the multimodal data understanding ability and cross-modal generation ability.
Specific to the industry, for example, the "Straw Burning Ban" application used to be connected to various sensors, and the video was analyzed by AI to issue early warning prompts. Some data was generated in this process, but it was all scattered information, and manual clicks and viewing of the data were required through the platform interface, and finally the report could be compiled for presentation.
Now with our platform, there is basically no need to click the mouse. You can directly use natural language to tell which time period and what kind of monitoring situation you need. The platform will extract the relevant data, automatically form a report, and present it directly, making human-computer interaction more natural and efficient.
Another example is the government affairs model we have made. We input all the data about government service information of a prefecture-level city into the platform. Citizens or managers can retrieve any policy by simply querying it through natural language, and it can conduct a free Q&A session. The Q&A is not only about document texts, but also includes answers and interactions in the form of pictures and texts.
Red Star Capital Bureau: How do platforms and vertical models empower the industry? How is “AI + industry” different from the “Internet + industry” mentioned earlier?
Shen Fumin:The platform is a technology application platform that can directly face customers; the model is a capability, and the capability of vertical models is to be placed on the platform to provide services to the outside world in a unified manner. When it comes to actual application, it is actually done through the platform. For example, we have now generated a large government model, a large urban governance model, a large traffic model, and so on on this platform.
I think "Internet+" is more of a connection tool or a production relationship tool, and "AI+" is more of a productivity tool. The big difference between the two is that the Internet is more like a connector, connecting supply and demand; AI is not a production relationship, but directly a productivity.
Therefore, "AI+" has a more fundamental value and driving force for all walks of life in society, and has a greater impact. "Internet+" will not affect the way of production transformation, it only changes the way of information transmission. For example, the industrial Internet also emphasizes "interconnection of all things", but it does not solve the problem of productivity. "AI+industry" is now to help the industry solve specific problems.

Red Star Capital Bureau: What challenges do we face in finding practical applications?
Shen Fumin:AI technology is a horizontal technology, it is a general underlying capability, and gradually AI will develop into a "basic subject", just like mathematics. The biggest challenge to empowering the industry now is the combination of horizontal technology and vertical industry needs.
The industry big model requires a deep integration of general technologies and industry characteristics, especially the special needs of industry scenarios. This requires a co-creation process, which requires AI technology manufacturers and companies in the industry to co-create and deeply integrate AI's professional technologies and industry expertise.
However, the barriers to understanding the industry are relatively high. For example, making large models in the transportation industry is good, but it does not mean that large models can be made well in the medical industry. Therefore, "co-creation" is very important, and AI companies need to absorb industry background knowledge to play a role. This means that they must deeply participate in industry scenarios to understand the needs, rather than just providing the other party with a technology to use.
We are now working on the transportation industry, for example, we want to achieve more efficient operation and safer supervision of highways. In the past, road operators were more likely to do manual management, but now they are more likely to collect data through various sensors and use big models for analysis, early warning, judgment, and decision-making. This requires starting from the needs of his business scenarios, not just moving data to the cloud, or simply providing computing power infrastructure to the other party.
Red Star Capital Bureau: Koala Youran has both general big models and industry big models. Why didn’t you choose a single vertical category to do it?
Shen Fumin:The real implementation is still the industry big model. For demand-side enterprises, they don’t actually need a general big model, but a big model that can solve their actual problems. Our Youran big model is a general big model for industrial applications. It can be applied in different industries and is essentially an industry big model. It now involves 5 or 6 industries including advanced manufacturing, energy, and urban governance.
We did not target a specific vertical industry, because Koala Youran is essentially a company that specializes in technology. Our positioning is to empower technology and AI. When we first started working on an artificial intelligence operating system, we wanted to empower all industries. We empower the industry through large models and platforms, while taking into account our industrial applications. We also focus mainly on advanced manufacturing and large-scale manufacturing, which have a huge demand for artificial intelligence and large models.
Sichuan should find a new way to develop artificial intelligence
Red Star Capital Bureau: What are Chengdu's advantages in developing artificial intelligence? What policies and support do companies think are necessary?
Shen Fumin:Whether from the provincial or municipal level, it can be seen that sufficient attention is paid to the development of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is now the No. 1 innovation project in the province, and Chengdu has also issued a three-year action plan for artificial intelligence. From the policy point of view, artificial intelligence has been made the top priority for development.
In addition, transportation, medical care, and electronic information are all industries in which Chengdu has comparative advantages, which are also suitable for the development of artificial intelligence. "AI + industry" can develop these industry models through advantageous industries and provide space for industry applications.
The most important point to focus on now is the integration of AI technology companies and industry leaders, which is not high at present. The creation of innovative cases for AI application scenarios is far from enough, but this is also the most valuable point. I believe that promoting scenario innovation and promoting the integration of AI companies and industry scenarios will definitely produce better results.
As an enterprise, we also hope that the big AI model will have more "voice" in Sichuan and Chengdu, which is very conducive to industry innovation. Artificial intelligence must enter the industry, let all industries have this awareness, and use artificial intelligence technology to transform their production and management, so as to ensure that they stay ahead in the industry.
I think Sichuan must also "find a new way" in the development of the artificial intelligence industry. If it wants to compete with the eastern coastal cities, it must focus on the industry, especially on Sichuan's advantageous industries, and release its own industry big models and industry-level products. I think this is an opportunity that should be seized.
