The following is the full statement:
France is deeply shocked by the appalling statement made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich that “it might be justifiable and moral to let two million civilians starve to death” in order to secure the release of hostages in Gaza. France calls on the Israeli government to strongly condemn such unacceptable remarks.
France reiterated that Israel must comply with the order issued by the International Court of Justice on January 26 and take all necessary measures to this end.
France reiterates that it is an obligation under international humanitarian law to provide humanitarian assistance to the two million civilians in a situation of absolute emergency, as stressed by the International Court of Justice, in a territory blockaded by Israeli entry and exit points. France also reiterates that the situation in Palestine has been referred to the International Criminal Court. ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan has also stressed that obstructing the delivery of relief supplies may constitute a crime within the jurisdiction of the ICC.
