Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, August 7 (Reporter Huang He) Russian President Vladimir Putin said on the 7th that the Ukrainian armed forces' attack on Russia's southern Kursk Oblast was another "large-scale provocation."
According to the Russian presidential website, Putin convened a meeting with members of the Russian government and heads of powerful departments to discuss the situation in Kursk Oblast. At the meeting, Putin said that the Ukrainian army used various weapons to carry out "indiscriminate attacks" on Kursk Oblast, including using missiles to attack civilian buildings. Putin asked all regions of Russia to actively provide support to Kursk Oblast.
Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, attended a relevant meeting via video on the same day and stated that the Ukrainian army launched an offensive against Kursk Oblast on the 6th with the aim of occupying Russian territory. Russian ground and air forces prevented the Ukrainian army from advancing in the direction of Kursk. Kuznetsov, assistant minister of the Russian Ministry of Health, told the media on the 7th that the Ukrainian armed forces' attack on Kursk Oblast on the 6th had injured 24 people, including 6 children. According to TASS, the attack had caused many deaths.
The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a notice on the 6th saying that on the morning of that day, nearly 300 armed personnel of the 22nd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Army, supported by 11 tanks and more than 20 armored vehicles, launched an attack on the border defense positions deployed by the Russian Army on the Russian-Ukrainian border in Kursk Oblast. The Russian Army launched attacks on the Ukrainian Army entering the border area and the Ukrainian Army in Sumy Oblast, Ukraine, destroying some Ukrainian tanks and armored vehicles.
