Southern Metropolis Daily reporter Lin Jingwu On August 6, as the only Chinese film selected for the New Wave section of the main competition of the 28th Busan International Film Festival, "Swimming in the Sea of People" released a new release poster and trailer, announcing that it will be released on August 27 on the National Art Film Screening Alliance. It is reported that the film is produced by the well-known Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan, and is the first feature film of Guangdong young director Cai Jie, starring Lin Dongping, Ouyang Jun, Pan Jie, and Taibao and Sun Yang as special actors.

As a film shot across Guangzhou and Hong Kong, "Swimming in the Sea" brings together many outstanding film creators: senior art director Pan Yisen from Hong Kong, well-known musician Lei Guangxia from Taiwan, cutting-edge producer Mo Jinjin, screenwriter Wang Yin and rookie photography director Huang Shuli from the mainland.

Nandu reporter learned that the film's creation process was delayed for seven years. The patient construction and polishing made "Swimming in the Sea of People" win many film festival awards. It was not only selected for 6 major venture capitals, but also selected for 18 international film festivals, including the "Bright Future" unit of the 53rd Rotterdam International Film Festival, the "Firebird Award" new talent competition of the 48th Hong Kong International Film Festival, and the "Hidden Dragon" unit of the 7th Pingyao International Film Festival. The unique narrative structure and image atmosphere of the film made "Swimming in the Sea of People" impress professionals and ordinary movie fans when it went abroad and returned to its homeland.

"Swimming in the Sea of People" successfully places the region and the times in a journey to find relatives, and uses restrained narrative to unfold the hidden pain and mystery of life. The film not only secretly unfolds the grand era changes experienced by Guangdong and Hong Kong society, but also accurately tells the individual story of an ordinary woman exploring her emotions. The film tells the story of a heroine who has always been trapped in her past family experiences. On the eve of her wedding, she went to Hong Kong to find her father whom she had not seen for 20 years. During the journey, she finally discovered the truth about her parents' marriage and met him again when she was a girl. Typhoons and rainstorms, cracked lychees, and pirated records, from Guangzhou to Hong Kong, the ferry crossed the ocean and walked into the fruit market. The film escaped into a dream in realism. The characters in the film experienced a fateful reunion, separation and reunion, and only then did they know that you and I were destined to travel together, but it was just a journey in the sea of people.

It is worth mentioning that before filming "Traveling in the Sea of People", Cai Jie was a documentary director. Because of this creative experience, his first feature film is full of delicate and moving details. On the one hand, he pursues the authenticity of environmental details. The core scenes in the film, such as Guangzhou Lychee Garden, Guangzhou Old House, and Hong Kong Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market, were selected after multiple rounds of research, laying the foundation for the texture of the whole film; on the other hand, he arranged all the actors in the film to immerse themselves in the roles and let the emotions flow naturally. The new actors Lin Dongping, Ouyang Jun, and Sun Yang, partnered with the veteran actor Hong Kong Film Award winner Taibao, and performed vividly.

Although the film is the first feature film by a new director, the director's ambition can be seen. It not only has the flavor of Hong Kong films, but also shows a brand new "Southern temperament". Its innovative creative form and the talents of many creators have enriched the connotation of this film.
