Ele.me announced that it will hold a free-of-charge event for visually impaired users for the third consecutive year on August 7. The guiding organizations for this year's event are the China Blind Association and the China Association for the Promotion of Publicity and Publicity for the Disabled. The new tea brand Chabaidao will also join Ele.me in sending benefits to visually impaired users in the form of surprise red envelopes. This is also the first time that a tea brand has joined the barrier-free free-of-charge event. It is becoming a consensus among more and more companies to allow the visually impaired to enjoy a better life more conveniently.
The rules for free orders are similar to before. Since Ele.me cannot directly identify visually impaired users, users who have used screen readers to open the Ele.me App between July 1 and July 31 (this is how visually impaired people use their phones) will automatically be eligible for free orders. Throughout August 7, eligible visually impaired users who place their first valid food and beverage order in barrier-free mode will receive a free order of up to 39 yuan, without having to guess the answer and without a limit on the total number of people.
On the day of the event, Chabaidao will also give out 4,000 free orders to eligible visually impaired users in the form of 19 yuan red envelopes. "August 7 is the beginning of autumn, and we want to invite visually impaired people to share the 'first cup of tea in autumn'," said the head of Chabaidao's home delivery business. "The barrier-free free order event is aimed at visually impaired users across the country. Chabaidao hopes to share love and happiness through this event and create a loving social atmosphere."
This year marks the third year that the Shenzhen Information Accessibility Research Association has worked with Ele.me to plan the barrier-free bill-free event. Yang Hua, secretary general of the association, said: "The participation of brands is another milestone in the barrier-free bill-free event. For the visually impaired, the free bill event can bring them happiness. In addition to tangible benefits, the more important thing is to be valued. This will encourage more people to continue to pay attention to and participate in barrier-free construction."
A user who participated in the barrier-free free event last year left a message on the forum: "We feel that being valued by Internet giants is a very good and happy thing. As the country pays more attention to barrier-free and disabled people, the construction of barrier-free environment is also constantly advancing. Your small acts of kindness are very important to us!"
Ele.me has always paid great attention to the product experience and happiness of visually impaired people. In addition to setting up a special team to continuously optimize the barrier-free scenarios of the App, it also actively promotes the free sharing of barrier-free patents in the industry. In 2023, the Ele.me App was rated as one of the first excellent cases of Internet application adaptation for the elderly and barrier-free transformation.
In addition, Ele.me is the first company to submit an application for a free open license for accessibility patents. It has currently shared 13 information accessibility patents with eight companies free of charge, and was the first to propose and advocate the "patent + code" delivery model.

Last summer, Ele.me also helped congenitally blind game developer Shen Guangrong realize his dream by hosting the "Just Want More People to Be Happy" offline blind e-sports competition for his game "Exploding City".
Some media comments pointed out that the visually impaired also have a strong demand for Internet use. Nowadays, popularizing Internet accessibility awareness, allowing the visually impaired to fully participate in digital interaction and practice, and paving an "Internet blind path" for them should become a social consensus in the digital age.
Due to differences in mobile phone operation methods, the experience of visually impaired people participating in online marketing activities will inevitably be discounted. However, driven by the use of technology to help the disabled, more and more companies are willing to consider the participation experience of these special users when designing welfare activities. In addition to investment from the technical level, respect and attention from the perspective of concept are also important cornerstones for building the "Internet Blind Road".
"The free meal for visually impaired users is valid for the whole day on the day of the event. We hope that while they are cheering for the Chinese athletes at night, they can also enjoy a free midnight snack and get double happiness," said the person in charge of the free meal project at Ele.me. "I believe that in the future, more brands will plan activities and provide benefits for visually impaired users, and we will continue to do such activities."
