IT Home reported on August 5 that according to the New York Times, Elon Musk has reopened his lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. Musk accused OpenAI of putting profits and commercial interests above the public interest, and of violating its promise to share or open source the company's technology for free by choosing to provide an exclusive license to Microsoft for the technology.

In June, Elon Musk withdrew his lawsuit against OpenAI and its co-founders, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, in a California court after he accused the company of breach of contract and claimed it had abandoned its original purpose of benefiting humanity.

IT Home noted that Musk’s decision to withdraw the lawsuit came just one day before the judge was scheduled to hear OpenAI’s request to dismiss the lawsuit. The day before, Musk also publicly criticized OpenAI and its new partnership with Apple, saying that if Apple integrated OpenAI’s technology into the “operating system level” of iPhones and Macs, he would ban his company from using Apple devices and made other threats.

His lawsuit alleges that OpenAI violated an agreement with Musk and other founding members, who all pledged to make OpenAI a nonprofit and keep its technology open source.
