Tmall Genie launches the Girlfriend Phone, marking another step forward for Alibaba’s smart hardware.

On August 5, Alibaba's Tmall Genie launched a high-end smart hardware brand "Wow", with artist Zhou Shen as the spokesperson, and released the brand's first smart hardware terminal - the "Bestie Phone" focusing on the female user market. The starting price is 5,199 yuan, the high-end version is 5,499 yuan, and the Zhou Shen customized version signed by Zhou Shen and built-in with multiple artist-related applications is 5,699 yuan.

As an emerging product form, the "girlfriend phone" has begun to emerge in the past two years. It can be generally understood as a "portable TV". It integrates the functions of mobile phones, tablets and TVs, as well as the new technology of AI large models. Combined with its portable characteristics, it has application capabilities in scenarios such as home entertainment and fitness. Traditional home appliances and smart hardware brands including LG and Baidu have begun to make plans.

Data released by a third-party organization showed that in 2023, sales of smart speakers in China were 21.11 million units, down 19.8% year-on-year. At its peak, annual sales reached 37 million units. Baidu, Xiaomi and Tmall Genie ranked in the top three, with market shares of 38%, 34% and 22% respectively.

As the entire industry shrinks, with the help of large models' capabilities in voice multimodal interaction, smart hardware brands are gradually exploring the market segment from screenless to screened and even ultra-large-screen phones such as girlfriend phones, which is expected to become one of the next trends.

According to Tmall Genie, the Wow Girlfriend Phone is equipped with the GenieOS 7.0 system and has introduced the Tongyi large model base, providing a series of intelligent application capabilities such as AI sound effects, algorithm sound pickup, and AI fitness.

The WoW Girlfriend Phone launched by Tmall Genie this time adopts an integrated structure. The main body of the phone is a 27-inch 4K resolution screen, which supports AI picture quality enhancement of video content through the Genie original image application.

At the press conference, the live demonstration by the Tmall product manager showed that under low-resolution conditions, the Wow Girlfriend Machine supports detail supplementation of video pixels to improve the resolution of the playback content.

In terms of hardware, the body is equipped with a TSMC 6nm process MTK MT8195 octa-core processor with a computing power of 4TOPS, and a 9500mAh battery, which can provide 8 hours of continuous video playback.

In terms of body design, the back cover and the middle frame are combined into one, and the back cover is equipped with a rotatable bracket. The main body and base of the bracket form an independent three-way panoramic sound system, including four fully symmetrical tweeters, an independent 20W midrange unit called a sky speaker located on the top of the bracket, and a bracket base consisting of a 4-inch 20W woofer and two 4536 square millimeters passive radiators.

According to official information, the Tmall Genie Girlfriend Phone has also integrated AI audio processing capabilities in the audio part. After turning on this function, it can achieve adaptive scene playback sound effects.
