In the field of laser medicine, my country has been importing holmium laser equipment since the late 1990s for minimally invasive urological surgeries, such as the treatment of stones, prostate hyperplasia, urinary system tumors, etc. Through holmium lasers, stones with a diameter of several centimeters can be "cut" into small pieces, which can then be excreted from the kidneys.

As market demand expands, a number of companies have been established and started to develop domestic holmium laser equipment. Ruikeen, founded in Zhangjiang in 2006, is one of them.

Combining medicine and engineering to build brand core competitiveness

On a wall of Raycoen's office, there is a line of words: A brand is a market. Without a brand, the market will be difficult. "We hope to build a corporate brand, develop our own laser medical equipment, and become a brand that Chinese people and doctors can trust," said Li Huiyong, chairman of Raycoen.

To this end, Rui Keen began to recruit R&D talents everywhere. "Electronics, embedded software and hardware, optics, mechanics... As long as there are professional technicians needed for laser equipment R&D, we will do our best to recruit them." Li Huiyong said with emotion, "Fortunately, in Zhangjiang, you can always find all kinds of talents you need."

In addition to recruiting talents, Li Huiyong also set his sights on the clinical front line. At that time, holmium laser technology was already the "standard" for the treatment of urinary stones. Compared with foreign technology, domestic holmium lasers have two major bottlenecks: first, the power attenuation of holmium lasers is serious, and most domestic holmium laser equipment can only be used for half a year due to power attenuation; second, the lithotripsy efficiency is low, and soft endoscope surgery cannot be performed. In addition, the soft optical fiber of the holmium laser equipment has disadvantages such as low transmission efficiency, which reduces the efficiency of the operation.

Faced with these challenges, Li Huiyong led the technical team to immerse themselves in research and development and repeated verification, and it took only half a year to overcome the problem of power attenuation of holmium laser equipment. As a result, Ruikeen became the first laser equipment manufacturer in China to pass EMC inspection.

It is worth mentioning that Raycoon has achieved 100% localization of the core components of holmium laser equipment. In addition to holmium laser, Raycoon has also invested in the research and development of more advanced thulium laser technology. As the research continues to deepen, Raycoon has found that compared with holmium laser, thulium laser has obvious advantages: higher lithotripsy efficiency, more comprehensive parameter settings, and significantly reduced stone displacement, and the equipment is more compact and has richer functions.

Innovate and iterate to build a product matrix

Today, Raycoon has successfully developed the U-FreeStar® Ultra-Pulsed Fiber Thulium Laser. In the treatment of urinary stones, this innovative product can achieve in-situ ultra-lithotomy, breaking through the traditional lithotripsy concepts and surgical methods, and setting off a new wave of innovation in urinary lithotripsy technology.

At present, Ruiken's holmium laser and thulium laser series equipment have been selected into the catalog of excellent domestic medical equipment products. In the first batch of Pudong New Area's recommended catalog of innovative medical equipment products, Ruiken's products such as Youlu Free Star® Ultra Pulse Fiber Thulium Laser, Youlu® Fiber Thulium Laser, Fengrui® Fiber Thulium Laser, Fengyun® Endoscopic Surgery Planer, and Zhuoguang® Medical Laser Fiber are all on the list.

Today, Raycoon is developing rapidly in the field of laser medical equipment. Its market share in urology lithotripsy laser therapy machines has ranked first in the country for five consecutive years, reaching 50% in 2023. Its users are spread across more than 3,000 hospitals in 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, with a coverage rate of over 80% in top three hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Raycoon is gradually achieving the goal set ten years ago.

Plan and layout to accelerate overseas expansion

But Raycoen's ambitions go far beyond this. In June this year, the Raycoen headquarters and medical laser equipment research and development base project with a total investment of RMB 390 million officially started construction in Zhangjiang Medical Device Industry Base. This new base, covering an area of over 13,000 square meters and a total construction area of over 30,000 square meters, is expected to be fully put into production in 2027, helping Raycoen to further increase its production capacity and create more advanced medical laser equipment.

After a year of exploration and layout, Ruikeen has successfully developed markets in more than 10 countries and regions including Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Mexico, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Papua New Guinea, and Nepal.

"We are confident that we can create a 'second growth curve' overseas that is comparable to the domestic market. At the same time, we will continue to enhance the international competitiveness of Chinese medical laser brands and let domestic medical laser equipment make China's 'strongest voice' on the world stage." When talking about the future, Li Huiyong is full of confidence.
