Yan Zhenqing(709-August 23, 784), courtesy name Qingchen, nickname Xianmenzi, alias Yingfang, was born in Wannian, Jingzhao (now Xi'an, Shaanxi), and his ancestral home was Linyi, Langya (now Linyi, Shandong). He was the fifth great-great-grandson of Yan Shigu and the younger brother of Yan Gaoqing, a famous official in the Tang Dynasty and an outstanding calligrapher.

The "Large-character Record of the Fairy Altar on Magu Mountain" is called "The Record of the Fairy Altar on Magu Mountain in Nancheng County, Fuzhou, Tang Dynasty". It was carved in April of the sixth year of the Dali Period of the Tang Dynasty (771). It was written and written in regular script by Yan Zhenqing. There are three versions, large, medium and small, handed down, but the original stone is lost and there is no rubbing of the original stele.

This is a large-character version, a horizontal copy from the Song Dynasty. It is said that the stone tablet of the large-character version was destroyed by lightning and fire, and Liang Boda, the prefect of Jianchang in the Yuan Dynasty, rebuilt it.The calligraphy on this stele is majestic and elegant, with a sense of eccentricity and uprightness, and it combines seal script with regular script. "This is the best among all the steles of Duke Lu."This stele, together with the two steles "Yan Family Temple" and "Yan Qinli", best represent Yan's original style of "traces of leaking roof" and "silkworm head and goose tail", and can be regarded as his typical works.

This copy was formerly owned by Shen Shuyong. Zhao Zhiqian wrote a title and a postscript, and there is also a letter from Zhao to Shen Shuyong.
