Shortly after announcing an additional 220 layoffs, Bungie said that plans for future Destiny 2 content had not been affected by the brutal layoffs, but according to well-known reporter Jason Schreier, this may not be the case.

Schreier cited several anonymous current and former Bungie employees as saying that Bungie is changing its content plans for Destiny 2, and that annual expansions will be replaced by smaller updates.

It is reported that the sales of Destiny 2's latest DLC, Shape of the End, are not even as good as the Autumn of Light released last year. Due to the decline in sales of expansion packs year by year and the high development costs, the studio has reportedly decided to stop releasing annual expansion packs. Reporter Jeff Grubb said the same thing earlier. According to reports, the purpose is to retain existing players while attracting new players.

Furthermore, sources claim that the team does not plan to sell these new content updates, but instead intends to release them for free.
