Qualcomm has been making a lot of noise about its Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chipsets since they were officially announced in April. After all, Qualcomm finally has a competitor to Apple's M series in the ARM laptop space, but there's still one hurdle the San Diego company has yet to overcome that could be a make-or-break factor in Qualcomm's efforts to solidify its position: pricing.

Currently, even Qualcomm's Snapdragon Dev Kit, the Snapdragon X Elite, costs as much as $899.

During Qualcomm's third-quarter earnings call, CEO Cristiano Amon announced that by 2025, users will be able to purchase the Snapdragon X Plus and Snapdragon X Elite products for $700.

Qualcomm did not reveal any financial statistics about the sales of the Snapdragon X Elite or Snapdragon X Plus, probably because it is too early to provide any meaningful numbers as the entire series is not yet available in various markets. In any case, during the chipset manufacturer's third-quarter 2024 earnings call, the company's CEO promised that the pricing of such products will be more accessible to customers as they can expect to pay as low as $700 without compromising on NPU performance.

Although Amon did not mention a specific chip model at a specific price point, our gut feeling tells us that it will be the Snapdragon X Plus, as devices like the Microsoft Surface Laptop with the same SoC currently retail for $999.99, while machines with the Snapdragon X Elite cost even more. Amon is convinced that Qualcomm will be one of the top chip suppliers for future AI PCs.

There are also rumors that the company has started working on the Snapdragon X Elite Gen 2, which is said to include an overclocked Adreno 830 GPU, and the same GPU is said to be coming to the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. While we can’t verify the authenticity of these claims, the launch of the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus proves Qualcomm’s commitment to this area, and we hope to see more advancements in the future.
