On July 31, the main steel structure of Shenzhen Natural History Museum was successfully topped out. It will then enter the decoration and renovation stage and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project was designed by B+H, 3xN and Zhubo Consortium, and constructed by China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau South China Company. As one of Shenzhen's "new era major cultural facilities", the museum will become the first comprehensive natural museum in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area after completion, adding a "world-class, Chinese style, Lingnan characteristics" landmark building to Shenzhen.

The total amount of steel structure of the project is about 24,000 tons, which is equivalent to the amount of steel used in three Eiffel Towers in Paris. The main body of the building is composed of 5,500 steel columns, and the structure is an inclined steel structure with a large number of curves, arcs, irregular and special-shaped structures. The construction team used BIM, CAD, MIDAS and other professional software to deepen the modeling and simulate the installation, and finally controlled the overall installation error to the millimeter level, constructing a beautiful and magnificent building.

Shenzhen Natural History Museum is located in Yanzihu District, Pingshan District, Shenzhen, with a total land area of about 42,000 square meters and a total construction area of about 105,300 square meters. The construction content includes a single building and a corresponding "whole-region" landscape greening system, which is divided into five floors above ground and two floors underground, integrating collection, exhibition, research and natural science education; the main functional areas of the project include display and exhibition area, science education area, public service area, collection storage and protection area, comprehensive business and academic research area, etc.

Shenzhen Natural History Museum Design

The Pingshan area where the Shenzhen Natural History Museum project is located brings together Yanziling, Pingshan River, wetlands, forests and fields. The unique natural ecosystem provides the core inspiration for the design: rugged terrain, towering cliffs, and rich cultural and ecological history.

Adhering to the concept of global natural ecological civilization and taking "river delta" as the design inspiration, the design team simulated the river and the spacious corridors along the riverside, presenting a "free and elegant" building in a streamlined style. The exhibition area takes "under the surface, beside the river, and on top of the mountains" as its design concept, presenting different visual features in different areas, guiding visitors into the story of natural history.

The highlight of the scheme is that it responds to the need to "create a new landmark place". It is cleverly connected to the north and south of the existing nature reserve. The public space throughout the roof is integrated with the natural terrain to form a unique "city-nature" space, making the Shenzhen Natural History Museum not only a destination in itself, but also part of a stronger cultural purpose, closely linking the city, community and nature.
