On July 28, the third Nantong Beer Carnival opened on the large lawn of Nantong Riverside Sports Park. Details of the third Nantong Beer Carnival series of activities and the "Passionate Summer, Enjoy Chongchuan" series of activities were released on site, and the "Youth Invitation, Destiny in the Rivers and Seas" talent gift packages were distributed. The "Nantong Fun" cultural and tourism resources were also promoted.

The Nantong Beer Carnival, which has been held for three consecutive years, has gradually become a major brand event and is very popular among young people. Currently, Nantong is building a youth-friendly city and continuously optimizing the youth- and talent-friendly urban ecology. Data shows that since 2019, the number of college graduates staying in, coming to, and returning to Nantong has continued to increase, with an average annual increase of 14.68%.

Nantong, across the river from Shanghai and southern Jiangsu, is known as "China's first modern city", the fourth city in Jiangsu to enter the GDP "trillion club", and the central city of the northern wing of the Shanghai metropolitan area. This "potential stock" in the eyes of the outside world is ready to "run in both directions" with young people.

"Nantong loves talents, come all"

Compared with the previous event, this beer carnival has undergone a comprehensive upgrade in venue functions and event settings. The total area has been expanded to 45,000 square meters, incorporating consumer hotspot elements such as old-for-new consumer goods to create a new summer night consumption scene to meet consumers' diversified consumption and leisure needs.

It is worth mentioning that this event also set up a talent night market with the theme of “Nantong loves talents, everyone come”, which will be held from July 28 to August 4, from 18:00 to 21:30 every night.

The Talent Night Market is organized by the Nantong Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, which combines employment services "at home" with the night economy. It organizes high-quality companies to set up booths on site to recruit talents, bringing "comfortable employment" into life, and deeply conveying and demonstrating Nantong's concept of building a youth-friendly city.

Shi Xiaoqiu, deputy director of Nantong Talent Service Center, told The Paper that on the first day of the talent night market, 892 people came to negotiate with companies, and 102 people reached employment intentions on the spot.

Compared with the traditional job search and recruitment model, this talent night market combines the nightlife scenes that young people love with job search needs. In the warm atmosphere of fireworks, job seekers can walk, look, shop and choose.

According to reports, this talent night market has recently collected 302 companies and 5,061 jobs in Nantong, of which about 60% have annual salaries of more than 80,000 yuan. It focuses on Nantong's six major industrial clusters, including high-level talent positions, young talent positions in short supply, and front-line practical talent positions. "Not only local, but also college graduates from outside the city use their summer vacation to come to Nantong to sign contracts. This group of employment has a strong desire to work and has clear target companies, so the success rate is relatively high." Shi Xiaoqiu told The Paper.

A total of 392 internship positions were announced on site, providing abundant job training opportunities. In order to help young people improve their employability, nearly 50 well-known companies were selected to negotiate with job seekers on site.

The relevant human resources and social security departments will also simultaneously publicize and interpret the application conditions and work processes for comprehensive subsidies, talent apartments, housing purchase subsidies and other matters in Nantong’s new talent policy based on basic information such as the educational level of young talents, to ensure that they can enjoy them as quickly as possible, so that more young people can feel Nantong city’s desire and respect for talents.

In addition, in order to better serve the single young people, the beer carnival will also host two single young people themed dating activities, "Summer Love Song 'Music' for You" and "Chen Gong's Matchmaking Good Time Is Coming". The Nantong Youth League Committee will be the responsible unit to create a romantic and warm interactive dating platform for single young people across the city.

Two-way travel, two-city life

Why is Nantong worth visiting for young talents?

Two days before the start of this beer festival carnival, a reporter from The Paper visited Shanghai North Hi-Tech (Nantong) Science and Technology City (hereinafter referred to as Shibei Nantong Science and Technology City) and visited two technology companies settled in Nantong.

Chen Dakai, chairman of Kekai (Nantong) Life Sciences Co., Ltd., graduated from Tongji University and the University of Frankfurt in Germany. After graduation, like many talents from Nantong, he chose to stay in Shanghai to work until 2018.

That year, Nantong Shibei Hi-tech Zone was officially approved for establishment, located in Chongchuan District, including Shibei Nantong Science and Technology City and other sectors. Shibei Nantong Science and Technology City is a major project jointly built by the governments of Jing'an District, Shanghai and Nantong City. It has now formed a vivid situation of "front shop and back factory", "R&D in Jing'an, transformation in Nantong", "marketing in Jing'an, service center call center in Nantong".

Chen Dakai established his company in his hometown Nantong in 2018, and settled in Nantong Science and Technology City in the north of the city. "Our company has a research and development center in Shanghai. The technical team is mainly composed of R&D personnel who returned from the United States and Germany. Manufacturing is mainly in Nantong. The reason why I chose to settle in Nantong was that in addition to Nantong's good talent policies and government services, what attracted me most was the industrial worker resources in my hometown." Chen Dakai said.

According to reports, the company mainly focuses on the research and development of medical devices in the field of structural heart disease, integrating production and sales. Most of its products are sewn by hand. Nantong has a strong textile industry and a large number of textile workers. These industrial workers can solve the problem of Chen Dakai's company's difficulty in recruiting workers. "Biological components in the human body need to produce huge blood flow pressure and impact. The workers' manual sewing is the most solid. After we came to Nantong, we solved the employment problems of many female textile workers, and many technicians from Shanghai also chose to buy houses and settle down in Nantong. The employee stability is very high." Chen Dakai described the two-way choice between himself and his hometown Nantong.

Entering Gelubo Technology Co., Ltd., this small company started in 2016 with only 3,000 square meters of raw land, has now become the first unicorn enterprise in Nantong City.

According to Cheng Jun, the company's deputy general manager, the company currently has nearly 300 employees, including nearly 160 technicians, including some top talents from North America and Germany. At the same time, the company has nearly 70 people commuting between Shanghai and Nantong every week, living a dual-city life.

Gao Jian, manager of the government and enterprise department of Shanghai Beigaoxin Group (Nantong) Co., Ltd., said that many employees of enterprises in the park live in two cities. With the gradual improvement of infrastructure such as high-speed rail, expressways, and cross-river passages, the dual-city life between Shanghai and Nantong is no longer an obstacle, but a normal state.

In order to solve the worries about talents, the park is also continuously introducing high-quality educational resources. Three kindergartens, including Heguang, Xingfu and Shibei Yuefu, are already in operation. It has also successfully introduced the city's key schools Qixiu Shibei Primary School, Qixiu Shibei Junior High School and the provincial four-star high school Nantong No. 2 High School.

Respecting and cherishing talents is rooted in Nantong’s genes. More than 120 years ago, Mr. Zhang Jian, an industrialist in the late Qing Dynasty, insisted on "cherishing talents for the world and preserving the truth for all eternity", and opened schools and training institutions of all levels and types to cultivate useful talents, and finally created the glory of "the first city in modern China".
