Internet anchors have been officially included in the country's new occupational category.

According to the General Office of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on July 31, the General Office of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the General Office of the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the General Office of the National Bureau of Statistics issued the "Notice on the Release of Occupational Information on Bioengineering Technicians and Others". The "Notice" shows that network anchors have been officially added as a new national occupation.

19 new occupations officially released

The Notice pointed out that recently, based on the opinions and suggestions of all parties, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, together with the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Bureau of Statistics, officially released information on 19 new occupations such as bioengineering technicians and 28 new types of work such as auto parts sales managers, and adjusted and changed information on 11 occupations (types of work). Among them, the popular online anchor has officially become a new occupation this time.

"The release of new occupations is of great significance for developing jobs, guiding vocational education and training, improving the quality of practitioners, and promoting employment and entrepreneurship," the notice further clarified.

The "Notice on Strengthening New Occupation Training" previously issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security pointed out that practitioners of new occupations can enjoy relevant policy benefits such as national vocational skills training subsidies and vocational skills certification subsidies, as well as policies related to the career development of high-skilled and professional and technical personnel.

According to reports, in order to improve the modern occupational classification system that conforms to my country's national conditions, vigorously develop new formats and models, and explore new employment growth points, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security established and improved the new occupation information release system in 2019, implemented dynamic adjustments to occupational classification, and released 1 to 2 batches of new occupation information every year thereafter. In 2022, the "Classification of Occupations of the People's Republic of China (2022 Edition)" will be revised and promulgated.

In order to timely reflect the changes and trends in occupational development, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security issued a notice in October 2023 to publicly collect information on new occupations. After the relevant institutions and units submitted suggestions, experts reviewed and demonstrated, and solicited opinions from relevant departments of the central and state organs in writing, it was publicly solicited for opinions in May this year.

The definition of network anchor is clear

It is worth mentioning that the "Notice" also defines online anchors as: people who provide online performances and audio-visual information services through live broadcasts, real-time communication and interaction, and uploading audio and video programs based on the Internet.

In addition, the main tasks of network anchors include six aspects:

1. Conduct online performance and audio-visual demand analysis, and assist in determining the content of live broadcast or shooting scripts;

2. Write online performances, audio-visual content broadcasts or live broadcast scripts, and prepare them;

3. Design the appearance, voice, and makeup image based on the program positioning, live broadcast theme, and personal characteristics of the anchor;

4. Produce and disseminate content that conforms to the core socialist values, control the production process of online performances, interactive communications, and audio-visual programs, and guide the direction and content of topics;

5. Organize and implement online interactive activities in an orderly manner, manage interactive content such as live broadcasts, bullet screens, and comments, and handle unexpected user interactions during synchronous or asynchronous communication;

6. Participate in data statistics, analysis and optimization in the dissemination of online performances, audio-visual content, etc.

According to the "China Internet Audio-Visual Development Research Report (2024)", as of December 2023, the scale of Internet audio-visual users in my country will reach 1.074 billion, and the usage rate of netizens will reach 98.3%.

The report shows that in 2023, the market size of the online audio-visual industry, including long videos, short videos, live broadcasts, audio and other fields, will exceed one trillion yuan for the first time, reaching 1,152.481 billion yuan. There are more than 660,000 existing companies whose main business is online audio-visual business.

The report points out that by December 2023, the total number of short video accounts on the entire network will reach 1.55 billion, the number of professional anchors will reach 15.08 million, the average daily short video updates on major short video platforms will be nearly 80 million, and the number of daily live broadcasts will exceed 3.5 million. The huge number of practitioners and the considerable market size have promoted online audio-visual to become an important force in the development of the digital economy.

"Life Service Experiencer" becomes a new type of job

In addition to the 19 new occupations, 28 new types of work such as life service experiencers were also officially released. This is also the moment when the identity of "store explorer" has been "rectified".

As live streaming and short video group buying have become part of people's daily consumption habits, the group of store explorers has gradually emerged. They share their consumption experiences through creations, providing valuable references for consumers. Store explorers have also become a career choice for many young people.

According to Douyin’s life service data, the number of Douyin store explorers with sales promotion increased by 40% year-on-year in the past 12 months. With their help, merchants’ revenue increased by 63%. Data shows that in the past 12 months, 2.287 million people on Douyin earned income by visiting stores.

However, in the past, the identity of store explorers was not clearly recognized, and their work was often misunderstood. Some people believe that the launch of the new profession of "life service experiencer" provides a formal identity for store explorers and strengthens their professional identity.

The person in charge of Douyin Life Service said that with the launch of the new profession of life service experiencer, more people will join the store exploration industry.
