The bright red four-piece set can be said to be a must-have item for weddings. As a domestic festive bedding brand, Nanfang Bedding has also become the first choice for many newlyweds when buying bedding.

But recently, Southern Bedding has attracted attention because its bedding did not meet the inspection standards.

According to the news released by the official Weibo account of Beijing Consumers Association on July 22, in order to fully understand the quality of bedding, provide consumers with objective consumption information, and guide scientific purchases, it conducted a comparative test of bedding.

It is understood that among the 80 samples tested by the staff of the Beijing Consumers Association, 15 brands did not meet the standards. Among them, the four-piece set (Le-The Wizard of Oz-Mocha Brown) and the four-piece set (Contrast Planet-Azure) of the trademark "Nanfang Bedding" did not meet the standards. The former had problems with pH value; the latter had problems with wet friction color fastness.

The Beijing Consumers Association pointed out that a pH value that is too high or too low will destroy the balance and resistance of the skin, causing skin allergies or inducing infection and leading to the invasion of bacteria. Products with poor color fastness are prone to discoloration or dye shedding during use, staining other clothes or other parts of clothes, affecting the appearance of the product, and the shed dye molecules may be absorbed by the human body through the skin and cause harm to human health.

Public information shows that the Nanfang Bedding brand was born out of the Ma'ao Daily Products Factory, which was established in 1981, and has a history of more than 40 years. Its founder is Xie Ancheng, who was born in a poor family in Rui'an, Zhejiang in 1962. At the age of 16, he sold sesame cakes on the street to supplement his family income.

Cai Ruoruo, the vice chairman of Nanfangxi Culture, is Xie Ancheng's first wife. It is said that when Xie Ancheng came to propose marriage, Cai Ruoruo's father, Cai Yanzhong (the owner of Ma'ao Daily Products Factory), had an ambiguous attitude towards the prospective son-in-law and did not seem to want to marry his daughter to this short young man.

The young and energetic Xie Ancheng made up his mind: "Within three years, I will surpass you in this industry." Cai Yanzhong was greatly shocked and felt that Xie Ancheng was very courageous, so he decided on the spot to marry his daughter to him. And Xie Ancheng's bold words quickly became a reality.

In 1981, Xie Ancheng carried two quilts produced in his workshop and went to the mountainous areas of Guangdong and Fujian to sell them. At that time, a large team of salesmen appeared in Wenzhou, and they traveled all over the country to sell goods. Riding on this wave of enthusiasm, Xie Ancheng embarked on a journey to pursue his dreams.

In 1982, Xie Ancheng founded Nanfang Industrial Co., Ltd.; in 1992, Nanfang Industrial ushered in an important turning point in its development - it successfully established a joint venture with a Taiwanese businessman, and the company was registered as a Taiwanese-funded enterprise and renamed Wenzhou Nanfang Bedding Products Co., Ltd.

Since then, Southern Bedding has moved twice. One was in 1999, when the company moved from Mayu to a new factory covering more than 20 acres in Ruian Economic Development Zone; the other was in 2010, when the corporate headquarters moved from Wenzhou to Shanghai, and its image spokesperson Cecilia Cheung even came to the scene to congratulate.

In 2006, Southern Bedding was the first to propose the concept of "wedding expert" in the home textile industry. After one year of in-depth research and market practice, it further clarified its business direction and eventually extended its brand positioning from "wedding expert" to "festive bedding expert."

As the company continues to grow, its business philosophy and management also need fresh blood. According to Leju Finance, the company's veterans such as Cai Yanzhong retired in 2005. In January 2006, Xie Ancheng's eldest daughter Xie Huihui, a "returnee" with a master's degree in business administration from the UK, took over the baton from her father. She started as an office assistant and took one step at a time to accurately grasp the operating model of the entire company.

In 2017, Xie Huihui founded the "Wedding + Cultural Creativity + Industry" Nanfangxi Cultural Entrepreneurship Park in the Rui'an Economic Development Zone, where every inch of land is valuable, and is committed to building a comprehensive fashion industry chain integrating celebration, experience and business. She is currently the chairman of Nanfangxi Cultural Industrial Park.

Leju Finance also learned that in addition to the recent product sampling that failed to meet the standards, companies related to Southern Bedding have also been subject to administrative penalties several times.

For example, in 2022, Southern Bedding Technology Co., Ltd. failed the online product quality supervision inspection organized by the Hangzhou Market Supervision Administration for its children's latex wave pillow - powder product. The illegal gains of 401.5 yuan were confiscated and it was fined 4,250 yuan. The decision document number was Shanghai Market Supervision and Financial Affairs Bureau [2022] No. 282022000575.

In 2021, Wenzhou Nanfang Bedding Products Co., Ltd. was fined 625 yuan by the Wenzhou Municipal Taxation Bureau, with the decision document number Wenshui Erjifa [2021] 70. The reason was that the company borrowed 5 million yuan and 20 million yuan from China Everbright Bank Wenzhou Ruian Branch in March and April 2018 respectively, but failed to declare and pay stamp duty. The Wenzhou Municipal Taxation Bureau stated that the company's failure to declare and pay taxes in accordance with regulations constituted tax evasion.
