Upon investigation, it was found that the suspect Xie Moucheng (male, 38 years old, from Shaoyang, Hunan) and Zhan Mourong (female, 44 years old, from Yunlian) had an emotional entanglement while working and doing business in other provinces. At around 23:00 on July 21, the suspect followed Zhan Mourong who was returning home and sneaked into Yunlian County. At around 7:00 on July 23, the suspect killed Zhan Mourong and four of her family members at home and then committed suicide.
