IDC: Vivo tops China's smartphone market in Q2 2024, Apple squeezed out of top five

IT Home reported on July 26 that the latest mobile phone quarterly tracking report released by International Data Corporation (IDC) today shows that in the second quarter of 2024,China's smartphone market shipments reached approximately 71.58 million units, up 8.9% year-on-year, continuing the growth momentum.

Among them, driven by manufacturers such as vivo, Huawei and Xiaomi,Android market grew 11.1% year-on-yearAfter the substantial price cut, although Apple's market demand has improved significantly, iOS market shipments still fell by 3.1% year-on-year. The lower shipments in the same period last year and the arrival of a new round of replacement cycles helped China's smartphone market shipments exceed 140 million units in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%.

  • 1、vivo In the second quarter, Vivo ranked first in China's smartphone market in terms of sales in shipments (sales in), and also ranked first in retail sales (sales out) in the first half of the year. Throughout the first half of the year, Huawei once again became the number one in the smartphone market with a market share of 17.5%. Although external restrictions continue to tighten, Huawei's supply capacity continues to improve, and it continues to narrow the gap with Apple in the market above RMB 4,000.

The report shows that more mid-range consumers are willing to upgrade their consumption and choose flagship products and large-storage versions with better user experience in all aspects to extend the replacement cycle.In the second quarter, China's high-end mobile phone market share above US$600 reached 25.9%, an increase of 2.8 percentage points compared with the same period last year. At the same time, some mid-range consumers, affected by the economic environment, chose to downgrade their consumption and preferred products that could meet basic usage needs but were cheaper, or even second-hand phones. In the second quarter, China's market share of mobile phones priced between $200 and $600 was 46.3%, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8 percentage points.


In the second quarter of 2024,China's foldable phone market maintained a triple-digit year-on-year growth, with shipments reaching 2.57 million units . With the release of new generation folding screen products from more manufacturers, and the increase in new folding screen product lines from manufacturers such as Honor and Xiaomi, it is expected that China's folding screen mobile phone market will still grow rapidly in the second half of the year, and its development will be better than the global folding screen mobile phone market.
