The couple who owns this house thought about their future living situation and considered selling the townhouse that had been with them for 30 years and purchasing a building with an elevator. However, when they thought about their old neighbors who they had lived with for many years and the grand reunions of 14 children and grandchildren during the holidays, the wide open space provided by the townhouse was indeed precious, so they decided to renovate the old house.

Floor Plan

The 172 square meters are very attractive. In terms of the indoor traffic flow and layout, the partition wall between the living room and the kitchen was removed, and the entire functional wall was opened along the wall to connect the front and back of the house. The independent kitchen was also moved here and changed to an open style. The bedrooms and bathrooms were placed in the original space, and the public and private boundaries were located according to the outline of the layout, creating a public area that stretches out in one line, so that family members can be seen from the corner of the eye.

Outside entrance

The light-transmitting skylight carries forward the theme of "sense of penetration" in this case, injecting a sense of freedom into the garage, which allows for the leisure of playing with flowers and grass, and the children's chasing and playing. This sense of freedom also spreads into the home through the outer entrance. The designer adjusts the direction of the door to create a buffer zone from the interior, and opens a large window next to the sofa, connecting the inside and the outside, allowing movement, stillness, and laughter to coexist in any corner of the home.

Inner Entrance

Thanks to the change of direction of the TV wall in the living room, we can change the way of placing the shoe cabinet in the courtyard in the past, and use a dust collector to take off all the outdoor equipment; it not only maintains the visual neatness, but also clears the daylight channel and expands the sense of space.

Breaking away from the plain plaster and warm wood tones, hexagonal tiles and railway brick walls are deliberately laid out, lighting up the lively atmosphere with the light, like a vibrant greeting.

living room

When your feet step on the warm wooden floor, the wooden storage cabinets will unfold a warm home scene, with family photos leading every step forward, and unfolding the most important reunion place in the family.

This cabinet was built to meet the homeowner's storage needs, thus hiding home appliances and spare parts invisibly and releasing the maximum space for activities. It also integrates sacrificial customs, using electrical pull-out trays to worship family gods and ancestral tablets. When worshiping, the platform can be pulled out to place offerings.

The sofa is not limited by the size of the wall, but is used in a couch-like manner to extend the number of seats along the layout. Combined with floating stairs and mud steps, it allows for multiple application scenarios. It is fun to climb up and down, and can also be used as a chair, stool or coffee table.

The floating shape of the staircase was inspired by the homeowner, a retired air force officer, and the idea of a cabin door was incorporated to highlight the personality of the home.

Dining room

Because the partition wall of the living area was removed, the front and back views were connected, allowing for endless sunlight. The wooden ceiling was slightly lowered, and the view of the dining area framed by the high electrical cabinet next to it further modified the existence of the return air vents.

The dining table outlines a fluid relationship. It is not fixed in its placement, but changes all the time according to the home scene. The only thing that remains unchanged is its close companionship with the kitchen, which ultimately makes cooking a pleasure.

kitchen

When the kitchen breaks away from its isolated role, the straight cooking route unfolds parallel to the dining table, continuing the language of the railway tiles in the entrance hall, bringing a bright rhythm to the matte gray kitchenware.

Even though the cooking area seems to have shrunk a lot, the storage capacity is not reduced; thanks to the arrangement of the ceiling cabinets and the multiple storage options provided by the track hooks, everything is well placed and ample space is provided for the preparation table.

The previous dull and dark picture of the first floor is gone, and the kitchen and dining room are shrouded in clear light; all this is thanks to the glass brick wall, which makes the window facing the dark alley reflect the sense of light.

Master Bedroom

Considering the privacy of the master bedroom, a hidden door is used to open up the pure white background wall of the dining room, which purifies the public area and defines the distance between the public and private areas. However, the bedroom is located in the middle of the space, which has the hidden concern of insufficient ventilation and lighting. Therefore, a window facing the outside is opened on the side of the stairwell to open up the sense of space.

Knowing that the homeowner has a lot of clothes and particularly likes open wardrobes, various storage forms were introduced, and ceiling-mounted cabinets were also placed for the homeowner to store spare items, forming a visual wall.

The dressing table continues the design of ceiling-mounted cabinets, reducing the storage function by hanging it in the air. It also thoughtfully designs a foldable makeup mirror to resolve Feng Shui concerns.

bathroom

Located deep in the house, the laundry room and bathroom share a piece of skylight. Simply by changing the closed roof into a matte light-transmitting patio, and then matching it with glass brick walls, the light can flow freely, adding to the bright feeling.

Stepping forward, the bathroom floor without drop is proof that the designer carefully considered the couple's retirement life. Inside, thin strips of tiles are used to splice the visual end view, cleverly echoing the linear and geometric design concepts.
