【New Wisdom Introduction】During the Paris Olympics, Google will work with NBCUniversal for the first time to use Gemini to bring AI technology into the stadium, providing viewers with an unprecedented viewing experience.

With less than a week to go until the Paris Olympics, the most exciting summer sports competition held every four years is about to begin.

The good days of eating cold watermelon, enjoying the air conditioning, watching Olympic athletes win gold medals, and browsing social media for fun are coming again!

There is something new in this Paris Olympics, and Google's Gemini AI technology will also be present on the sports field.

On Thursday, NBCUniversal and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) announced that Google will integrate artificial intelligence into its broadcast of the Paris Olympics and will use AI commentary.

At the same time, Google’s cooperation also includes the US national team competing in the Olympics, becoming the "Official AI Sponsor of the US Team."

It is conceivable that a large-scale international event such as the Olympics, which is broadcast worldwide, will also become a big stage for Google to showcase its AI technology.

“We are excited to announce Team USA’s partnership with Google,” said Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the USOPC. “This collaboration is more than just a sponsorship; it’s a powerful alliance that brings together the best of technology and sports.”

“By working with Google and NBCUniversal, we are ensuring that the athletes’ stories are told in the most dynamic and engaging way possible. This partnership will inspire millions of people and positively showcase Team USA on the world stage of sport.”

Google's partnership with NBCUniversal will bring the Paris Olympic Games and the athletes' stories into the media through seamless integration of broadcast content.

The process will leverage a range of Google's application products, including Search, Maps and Gemini, as well as new AI technologies across the board.

The partnership with Google is also part of NBCUniversal's own strategy to modernize its Olympic broadcasts and coverage to attract younger viewers who don't watch live TV.

“We are thrilled to be working with Google to deliver innovative and highly engaging technology elements to enhance our coverage of the Paris Olympics and make every viewer feel as if they are actually there,” said Dan Lovinger, president of NBCUniversal.

"This unique partnership demonstrates how innovative technology can be combined with premium content to engage fans of all ages."

Personalized custom event review

NBC announced in June that it would launch personalized daily game reviews generated by AI, narrated by an "AI version" of sports commentator Al Michaels.

Viewers simply set up “Your Daily Olympics Recap” in the Peacock app, provide a name and select up to three sports types of interest (for example, table tennis match and goal moment highlights).

Then, every morning, users receive a daily highlight from the familiar voice of Al Michaels.

To prevent AI broadcasting errors, NBC said its editorial team will review all content, including audio and editing, to ensure quality and accuracy before providing the audio to users.

The personalized review will begin on July 28, and the first edition of the review will first introduce the audience to the highlights of the opening ceremony.

Google Search Explains the Race

NBCUniversal has created an "Explain the Olympics" segment that will show how to use AI to search on Google.

During NBCU’s daytime and primetime coverage, NBC Olympics broadcasters will demonstrate how to quickly search snapshots and links to help viewers search for answers to their own questions about the games.

Google Search also allows viewers to quickly learn about their favorite sports and gather more information about them.

For example, the importance of lane assignments, the different rules for Olympic basketball, or getting information about Paralympic track and field athletes.

"Explain the Olympics" will be extended to NBCUniversal's social media accounts, further expanding its influence, helping sports fans quickly obtain information and providing a platform for social discussion.

Have fun interacting with Gemini

Comedian Leslie Jones will also make a surprise appearance at the Paris Olympics, using Google's Gemini AI model to learn new sports.

As a comedian, Leslie Jones has won the love of countless audiences with his unique sense of humor and keen observation.

This time, in her new capacity as NBC's "Chief Superfan Commentator," Leslie Jones will make full use of Gemini to lead viewers in an exclusive exploration of the Paris Olympics and the daily routine of the US team.

In between games, she will have interesting interactive conversations with Gemini AI, allowing the audience to learn more about the behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes of the Olympics in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

“Hey, Gemini AI, how far do you think this long jumper can jump?”

"Based on my data analysis, I bet he has a chance to break the world record!" Gemini AI's answer is both professional and interactive, with vivid humor, greatly enriching the Olympic Games viewing experience.

Immersive day tour of Paris

Paris is the host city for this year's Olympic and Paralympic Games, with landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Stade Roland Garros also serving as venues for the events.

Five Olympic and Paralympic athletes will be featured in social videos and promotional films, using apps like Google Lens, Circle to Search, Google Maps, and immersive views and Gemini to explore venues and sights of Paris based on their personal interests.

Online users can also follow them to "cloud tour" the landmark buildings of Paris and feel the charm of the collision between ancient Paris and emerging technologies.

3D broadcasting is immersive

Google Maps 3D Reality, which provides 3D views of locations around the world, will also be on full display during the Olympic broadcasts.

Viewers will be able to see iconic Paris Olympic venues such as the Palace of Versailles, Stade Roland Garros and the Aquatics Centre, all in immersive 3D.

In addition, you can also learn about the activities at each location directly on the map, giving viewers a novel experience of the Paris version of "SimCity".
