IKEA has initiated a recall of 253 mobile power banks due to the potential risk of melting or self-limiting combustion.

According to the official website of the Shanghai Market Supervision Administration, IKEA (China) Investment Co., Ltd. recently announced that it has decided to implement a comprehensive recall of 253 IKEA brand VARMFRONT mobile power supplies produced from March to May 2023 between July 17 and October 16, 2024.

IKEA said that once the above products are overheated, there are serious safety hazards such as melting or even self-limiting combustion, which poses a potential threat to the personal and property safety of consumers. IKEA requires all consumers who hold the relevant batches of products to stop using them immediately and promises to provide consumers with full return or exchange services to ensure that the rights and interests of every consumer are properly protected.

According to a report by China Securities Journal, a relevant person in charge of IKEA stated that IKEA's recall this time is a global recall. At the end of 2023, IKEA received three incident reports related to Wangfulong mobile power supplies worldwide, and some customers reported overheating or melting. However, there is no case of consumers being injured or property damaged due to the use of related products. The company attaches great importance to this and immediately launched an internal investigation and invited external experts to conduct research and judgment together. Previously, IKEA preventively stopped selling batches of products that may have problems through all official channels. Recently, the company made the decision to recall.

The reporter of The Paper noted that IKEA's official website currently sells two VARMFRONT power banks. The 10400mAh large-capacity version, priced at 99.99 yuan, is equipped with dual USB-A ports and one USB-C port, supporting a total output power of up to 18W, meeting users' various charging needs; the 5200mAh portable version, priced at 59.99 yuan, is also equipped with USB-A and USB-C ports, with a total output power of 12W.
