On July 18, Huawei Terminal announced on Weibo that the entire Huawei Pura70 series will be offering a limited-time discount, with a maximum discount of 1,000 yuan.

It has been exactly three months since the series of models officially went on sale.

An employee of a Huawei Smart Life Center in Shanghai told Observer.com that there are no official discounts for the Huawei Mate60 series and some products are still out of stock.

Huawei Pura70 series promotion information

As the second flagship after Huawei's "return", the Pura70 series can be said to have enjoyed the same high attention as the Mate60 series.

At present, the three most critical months for testing sales have passed. How is the performance of the Pura70 series?

Yesterday (July 18), a Huawei insider revealed that since the Pura70 series started Pioneer Plan sales on April 18, as of July 16, Huawei's Pura 70 series shipments have increased by 125% compared to the P60 series in the same period.

Guancha.com checked TechInsights statistics and found that the shipment volume of the P60 series launched in 2023 was 1.8 million units. Based on this data, the current shipment volume of the Pura70 series should be less than 2.25 million units.

This is still significantly lower than TechInsights' estimate of 10 million units of Pura70 series shipments this year, and is far less than the peak shipment volume of 15.8 million units achieved by the P30 series in 2019.

In contrast, according to TechInsights statistics, the Mate60 Pro series (including Mate60 Pro, Mate60, Mate60 Pro+ and Mate60 RS Ultimate) shipped 6.2 million units in China within 5 months (August to December 2023).

As the three most critical golden months for sales have passed and the fourth quarter of the Mate70 series is approaching, the difficulty of increasing shipments of the Pura70 series will inevitably increase. This may also be one of the reasons why Huawei is conducting summer price reduction promotions.

The activation data can also reflect some information. According to BCI statistics, in the fourth quarter of 2023, when the Mate60 series was hot-selling, Huawei's mobile phone activation volume in the Chinese market was 11.46 million units, a year-on-year increase of 79%, and ranked third with a share of 15.3%.

In the first quarter of 2024, with the launch of the Nova12 series at the end of 2023 and a small folding phone in February, Huawei's mobile phone activations in the Chinese market reached 10.58 million units, a year-on-year increase of 81%, still ranking third with a share of 15.5%.

Entering the second quarter, Huawei officially launched the Pura 70 series in April. According to BCI data, the activation volume of Huawei mobile phones in the Chinese market in that quarter was 9.95 million units, a year-on-year increase of 43%, with a market share of 14.9%, ranking down to fifth.

From these data, it can be observed that the Pura70 series' pull on Huawei's mobile phone activation volume is not as great as that of the Mate60 series and other models. Moreover, this is when the supply of the Pura70 series has improved, and it has not replicated the situation of the Mate60 series being hard to find in its early days on the market.

Of course, this does not mean that Huawei phones are not selling well.

According to BCI data, Huawei's mobile phone activation growth rate in China in the second quarter was still the highest among all brands. The growth rates of vivo and Honor were 7%. Although Apple offered the biggest price cut in history, its activation volume still fell by 2%, OPPO fell by 18%, and Xiaomi's growth rate was around 20%.

Huawei's promotion reflects that the supply of the Pura70 series should be further improved, hoping to boost sales before the summer vacation and the launch of the Mate70. But it also proves that after the craze of the Mate60 has passed, the competition in the mobile phone market has become more intense, and the market share gap between major manufacturers is not obvious. If they want to compete for the market share, they must either offer preferential prices or create more value for users.
