Recently, the first steel structure of the roof of the professional football field project of Jinan Yellow River Sports Center, a landmark building like a pearl on the banks of the Yellow River, was hoisted, marking that the stadium has officially entered the stage of roof steel structure construction. It is expected that the roof steel structure will be completed by the end of 2024, and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2026.

According to reports, the project is one of the most complex professional football stadiums in China, and the construction has set many domestic records: the maximum cantilever length of the roof steel structure is 45 meters, which is the longest cantilever length of domestic stadiums; the difficulty of the closing section construction is the highest in China; the deformation generated during the unloading of the steel structure support frame is the highest among similar stadiums in China. In addition, the football stadium is the world's first flat single-layer membrane spoke-type cable membrane structure system project, and it is also the first professional football stadium in China to use high-transmittance PTFE grid membrane materials on a large scale.

The Yellow River Sports Center professional football stadium is located in the Jinan New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion Pilot Zone, close to the Yellow River. It has a total construction area of ​​197,000 square meters and can accommodate about 61,000 people. It adopts the latest FIFA World Cup standards and is one of the first batch of World Club Cup professional football stadiums to be built in China. It is also the first 60,000-seat football stadium in Shandong Province.

The Yellow River Sports Center is a comprehensive sports and leisure facility with a professional football field as its core, and is equipped with a swimming pool, a national fitness center, a multi-functional sports complex and other venues.

The project was designed by Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (leader) and HPP Architecture. The urban design of the Yellow River Sports Center is inspired by the Yellow River. It adopts a ring-shaped structure, takes the charm of the nine bends of the Yellow River, creates a spatial structure of "one axis and three rings", and presents the form, history and spirit of the Yellow River. The plan respects the current development status of the north of the Yellow River in Jinan and inherits the dialogue relationship between mountains and waters in the urban pattern.

The Yellow River Sports Center's professional football field is like a pearl inlaid on the bank of the Yellow River. It is round outside and square inside, with a shape that echoes up and down, symmetrical left and right, and a combination of rigidity and flexibility. The surface of the field is golden, and the roof is undulating along the ring, like a yellow dragon wandering. The skyline of the internal stands symbolizes the blood flowing in the Yellow River, which flows endlessly; the unique Yanhuang color depicts the close unity of the Yellow River culture.

In 2017, Jinan issued the "Implementation Plan for the Reform and Development of Football in Jinan", formally proposing to create a "famous football city". The construction of the Yellow River Sports Center is an important foothold for this goal. After the completion of the project, it will drive the development of the "sports +" industry cluster in the starting area, help Jinan move from the "Spring City Era" to the "Yellow River Era", and create a new name card for Jinan as a football city.
