Specifically, as of July 15, the data from Lighthouse Professional Edition showed that the total box office (including pre-sales) of the 2024 summer season exceeded 4.2 billion yuan, and the top three movies in the box office list were "Silent Killer", "A Small Shop at the Edge of the Clouds", and "Catching Dolls", which earned 870 million yuan, 490 million yuan, and 400 million yuan respectively. From July 13 to 14, the single-day box office of the summer season exceeded 200 million yuan for two consecutive days, and on July 14, the single-day box office exceeded 300 million yuan for the first time. This is also the first time that the single-day box office of the market has exceeded 300 million yuan again after 70 days since May 3.

It is worth noting that in addition to many popular films, there are many highly anticipated new films ready to be released in the 2024 summer season, covering a variety of genres such as comedy, romance, animation, suspense, fantasy, etc. According to the Lighthouse Professional Edition, before the end of July, the new domestic classic IP series animated film "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Guardian", the imported blockbuster "Deadpool and Wolverine", and the fantasy action film "Under the Alien" adapted from the Chinese comics will meet the audience one after another.

With many films locked in the summer schedule, many listed film companies have also recently handed in their first-half performance report cards. Among them, Wanda Film said in its performance forecast that it expects net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies to be 100 million to 130 million yuan in the first half of the year. With the arrival of the summer schedule, the market is still confident that the industry will continue to recover in the second half of the year; Bona Film Group said in its performance forecast that its film business has improved compared with the same period last year, and it is expected to have a net loss of 108 million to 153 million yuan in the first half of 2024. However, the net loss in the same period last year was about 265 million yuan, and the loss has narrowed.

In previous years, mid-to-late July has always been the peak period of the summer market, so we expect the summer movie season to continue its upward momentum and usher in a new peak.

Film critic Liu Chang further said that the good momentum of the summer vacation is not only due to the outstanding performance of several popular domestic films, but also to the concerted efforts of the entire film industry chain and the positive feedback from the market.
