Domestic mobile phone manufacturers are too aggressive! Huawei has opened up a new form of mobile phone

Our domestic mobile phone manufacturers are really competitive.

At the beginning of the year, Meizu abandoned the "traditional smartphone" project and transformed to "All in AI". A bunch of mobile phones followed suit. Later, they rolled up batteries, such as Blue Ocean Battery, Jinsha River Battery, Qinghai Lake Battery, Glacier Battery, South China Sea Battery, etc., so now "all corners of the world" are almost gathered together.

The result was unexpected. I had just started to get used to the folding screen and the "tri-fold screen" was about to come.

Recently, a digital blogger revealed that a domestic mobile phone manufacturer is developing a "triple-folding screen mobile phone", and it is also the world's first "triple-folding screen mobile phone" that can be mass-produced. It adopts a double-hinge design, and even the crease problem is well controlled.

Although the blogger did not reveal who it was specifically, the last sentence "far ahead" revealed that the manufacturer was Huawei.

Coincidentally, earlier this year, Huawei also announced a "tri-fold screen" patent, which described in detail the specific form and usage of the tri-fold screen. Isn't this a sure thing?

Huawei has tried both inward-folding and outward-folding folding solutions before, but ultimately decided to use the inward-folding solution for its flagship phone. The triple-folding screen is equivalent to integrating two folding solutions, which is more technically difficult.

It is reported that the panel of Huawei's tri-fold product may be provided by BOE, with a screen ratio of 28:9 or 18:9. When unfolded, the screen size can be 10 inches. It is better to call it a tablet rather than a mobile phone.

There is also news that Huawei's three-fold mobile phone will be available on the market as early as this year, and the release time may coincide with the iPhone 16, but the price... may be close to 15,000 yuan, which is another new "financial product."

Of course, Huawei is not the only one trying the triple-folding screen solution now. Honor is also trying a similar solution.

After the Honor Magic V3 launch conference, Zhao Ming revealed that in terms of patent layout, Honor has laid out new technologies such as tri-fold and scroll, and Honor Lab has completed the evaluation of tri-fold products, but the price will be more expensive and the usage scenarios will be subject to some restrictions. Whether it can be launched in the future depends on consumer demand.

According to the existing information, the three-fold screen product should not be compared with mobile phones, but tablets. Compared with mobile phones, the three-fold screen has a lighter weight and a more portable experience. The usage and scenarios are also wider than tablets, and it can even handle some office needs, such as simple text and spreadsheet processing.

But looking back, the tri-fold screen is not a new technology. Samsung has made similar products before and demonstrated them to the outside world. As for why it was not launched in the end, I personally guess that the process is too complicated, the yield rate is too low, and the cost is too high.

But then again, it’s not like we haven’t seen technologies such as scroll screens and surround screens. They all shocked consumers at the time, and many consumers were waiting for them to be mass-produced and put on the market, but in the end the projects were aborted.

So why are mobile phone manufacturers obsessed with screen shape?

To put it bluntly, it's just to make themselves look more "high-end" and show off their muscles. In addition, large screens can really attract some consumers to pay for them. After all, humans are visual animals, and big is justice.

But the editor feels that today's folding screen mobile phones are just about the same thickness and weight as ordinary straight-screen phones. The extra screen requires hinges, batteries, heat dissipation and other components to work together, which not only increases the cost, but once it is damaged, the repair cost will rise sharply.

Another thing is that many APPs do not have a good experience on folding screens. Some of them just stretch the UI ratio. Now with an extra screen, the proportion of the APP has to be re-adapted, which greatly reduces the experience.

Finally, there is nothing new in the mobile phone industry. No matter who makes the "first mass-produced three-fold screen mobile phone", it can be exciting. Consumers just want a better mobile phone, whether it is inward folding, outward folding, or novel three-folding or scrolling, as long as it is useful, they are willing to pay for it. But I still want to ask, at present, even folding screens are not just needed, is a three-fold screen mobile phone really necessary?
