it home reported on september 9 that bloomberg quoted sources on september 6 beijing time as saying that the wafer yield of the 4nm production line of the first factory of tsmc's arizona wafer factory project is already comparable to that of tsmc's similar production line in tainan city, taiwan.

tsmc said in an emailed response to the bloomberg report that its arizona project is "on track and progressing well."

tsmc mentioned in its first quarter 2024 earnings call that it had started n4 process engineering wafer production at its arizona wafer fab in april this year.

tsmc's u.s. wafer fab project in arizona currently includes three factories. the first one focuses on the 4nm node and is scheduled for mass production in the first half of 2025; the second one provides 3nm and 2nm production capacity and is expected to start production in 2028; and the third one is aimed at 2nm and more advanced processes.

the total investment in these three factories reached us$65 billion (it home note: currently about rmb 461.831 billion). according to the non-binding preliminary memorandum reached between tsmc and the us department of commerce, the latter will grant tsmc up to us$6.6 billion in direct financial subsidies and us$5 billion in loans in accordance with the us chips act.
